Inspiring Civic Engagement Through the Arts
Education has the power to do more than teach facts- it can inspire curiosity, encourage thoughtful dialogue, and help young people become informed, engaged citizens. Orwell Art, an educational initiative that uses literature, visual arts, history, and creative expression to connect students with real-world issues. By encouraging students to explore complex topics through an interdisciplinary lens, Orwell Art helps foster critical thinking, empathy, and civic engagement.
The initiative reflects Nadia’s belief that meaningful learning happens when students are encouraged to ask questions, examine different perspectives, and connect classroom learning to the world around them.
One example of this work was featured by Euromaidan Press, highlighting how Orwell Art brought together history, literature, and student creativity to explore themes of democracy, human rights, and historical memory through the study of the Holodomor.
Today, the same philosophy continues to guide Nadia’s approach to leadership: listening with curiosity, bringing people together, and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue that strengthen our communities.
